About Us

We started Dog & Gun in 2019 because camp coffee was terrible and nobody seemed bothered about fixing it. So I learned to roast, ordered an expensive glorified oven and started making bloody good coffee for people who'd rather be outside than behind a desk. Honestly, the coffee is great but what we deeply care about is the lifestyle... chasing adventures, exploring epic country, taking a sickie because the good weather won't wait for the weekend. I believe that more people should be getting outside, taking responsibility for where their food comes from and enjoying a bloody good cup of coffee as one of life's little luxuries. Sharing all of that with good people is what it's about. There are a lot of coffee brands out there now and some are doing some weird sh*t to try stand out. Our philosophy is to keep it simple: high quality beans from the best growing regions in the world, roasted fresh and with consistency (that's harder than you'd expect). We avoid getting fancy with tasting notes, coffee that tastes like tea or trying to pretend that "certifications" and pay-to-play awards mean anything other than making a good marketing tactic. We roast mostly on a 35kg Loring - arguably the worlds best roasting equipment. It has the price tag to match, believe me. The key with this thing is repeatability. It is reliable even when doing huge volumes and produces a clean, delicious coffee every single time. We've also got a little Probat 12kg roaster that is kept at our 'sister' cafe / warehouse. This is your old school, tried-and-tested but high quality drum roaster. It requires a bit more skill to operate but produces really bold, delicious coffee. It's like using an old cast iron pan to cook - flavour is just baked in. Everything is done in house by our internal team. From selecting the beans to making the profiles, roasting, tasting, processing, packing and shipping. I got into the outdoors in my late 20s after a move to New Zealand where the majority of our adventures involved doing multi-day trips in the mountains. We'd go as far as cutting straps off our packs to save weight… but then I'd share camp with fellas who'd actually hiked in a hand grinder and an AeroPress because they refused to drink instant. "Weird", I thought at the time. But fair enough. Opportunity noted. A chance encounter in Japan introduced me to single-serve drip filters and I knew straight away that was the answer for the field. Nobody was making quality coffee specifically for the outdoors community. So we did. My wife Rache and I launched Dog & Gun from a caravan. We were planning to travel around Australia and this was supposed to maybe cover fuel money or pay for camp fees. It was also a way to give something of value to the community that had given me so much. What started with hand-scooping drip filters one by one soon turned into something much bigger and now Dog & Gun has over 40,000+ customers and is found in retail stores across the country. We've got a solid team at our Brisbane roastery who handle the manufacturing, packing and shipping. They’re employed by us, not anonymous outsourced labour. They see your orders, they respond to the emails, they test and develop the products. Rache and I moved to Far North Queensland where we steer the ship from afar and live the lifestyle the brand was built around. We hunt and fish for our protein, build our homestead, explore remote country and run guided adventures for people who want to experience this lifestyle for themselves. Our team gets more freedom than most with how they work… because there's no point building an outdoors brand if nobody actually gets time to go outside. We donate a significant amoount of coffee and funds to the community that built us. Clubs, events, conservation organisations… if they're getting people outside or looking after wild places, we want to support them. The outdoors community gave us everything that we love and we're just trying to return the favour when we can. If you're involved in something that aligns with that, feel free to reach out to discuss how we can help. Dog & Gun was never just about selling product. It was about a way of life. And we're leaning further into that than ever. We’re now focused reclaiming outdoor culture through thoughtful media, hosted adventures and supplying quality gear. We look forward to seeing you out there.
